Typical JCHS Events

Membership Meetings

Spring and Fall membership meetings with a speaker sharing their knowledge of local history, usually held at the Old Opera House in Charles Town.

Annual Summer Picnic

The annual summer picnic takes place on the lawn of a historic home of the County. The picnics have been held at 51 locations in Jefferson County since 1969.

Civil War Seminars

For several years the Historical Society has been offering a summer seminar on the Civil War in Jefferson County. There are various speakers during the day and usually an onsite visit hosted by the owner. Teachers often receive credit for attending and the program is open to the public for a small fee.

Community Outreach

JCHS sets up tables at the County Fair, WV Days, and the Charles Town Farmers Market to share information about local history and the Historical Society.
